While you were sleeping
While you were sleeping, I lifted the shimmering veil of the night and let the stars drift into another night. I stirred the cosmos with the music of my mind, till the wind hushed to a soothing whisper and held you lovingly in its warm embrace. I stole light from the Sun's fiery paradise and let it wander into your haven of delight. I held a conversation with the trees and involved the reluctant flowers in my conspiracy. I flew with the birds and told them secrets of the fall and now they sing songs with my refrain. I gave the stream a new melody and the lyrics fall in gentle murmurs in your dream. I conspired with sleep and kept it miles away, so that I could wake in your dream. I tiptoed into the secret chambers of the sun and pocketed all the rare shades of sienna, ochre, crimson, cadmium, cobalt, red earths, ultramarine, ivory black, scarlet and grey. Before you could look out of the window, the sky was already painted with a poet's opaque colours on the sky's rumpled glaze.
The magical rays filtered through the chintz curtains and fell on your eyes. The orchestrated symphony of a divine melody tapped you on the shoulder and as you rose from the cocooned warmth of your beautiful mind, you simply looked at me and asked why I had stayed awake all night!
