Thanks To Victor Morgado, a Puerto Rican artist, painter, Native American flute expert and musician for making this sound version of my poem 'When the perfume bottle broke' and sharing it with a world that believes in the healing power of music and poetry. Victor has the privilege and honor of working with Patti Smith- American singer-songwriter, poet laureate of punk rock and artist.
When the perfume bottle broke, I knew somewhere,
the splinters pierced your soul and the fragrance
filled the contemptuous air, while time flew on
cataclysmic wings and searched for you everywhere.
The myriad molecules held the womb of silent death
and the umbilical cord sucked the venom as though
the thirst would never quell while the poison worked
it’s way through subverting shadows of hell.
The gentle sound of the million fragrant fragments
shattered the silence of a thousand volatile moments-
drenched in the musk of your body, exploring
what it means to be the fragment and the fragrance.
It happens all the time, even as I speak, I feel the –
heady fragrance, yours and mine, envelop me,
as though searching in those scented fragments,
Moments- neither yours nor mine, for it to keep.
